Why have a coil check scan?
Most coils settle without issue, but it’s completely normal to want reassurance — especially after insertion, if you can’t feel the strings, or if you’ve developed new symptoms. A coil check scan can confirm whether the device is correctly positioned and help guide next steps if anything looks out of place.
This scan is particularly helpful for peace of mind when you’ve had discomfort, changes in bleeding, or you’re worried your coil may have moved.
A coil check scan may be right for you if:

you can’t feel your coil strings (or they feel different)
you’ve had pain/cramping that doesn’t settle
you’ve noticed heavier, irregular, or unexpected bleeding
you’ve had a difficult insertion or want reassurance after fitting
you’re experiencing symptoms and want to exclude malposition
you’re due a check before an important event (travel, fertility planning, etc.)
Who is this scan for?
Your scan can help confirm:
whether the coil is within the uterus
whether it appears well positioned
whether there are features that may explain symptoms (for example uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, or pelvic free fluid where visible)

If the coil is not clearly seen in the correct position, we will advise on the safest next step — which may include reviewing strings, repeat imaging, pregnancy testing where appropriate, or onward referral depending on your situation.
